Delaware Megan's Law

Being named after Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was passed into federal law in 1995. Megan's Law requires that each state have a system in place for notifying local residents when a sexual offender is located in their community.
Megan was merely seven years old when a previous sex offender that was living accross the street from her family, kidnapped, violently rapped, and killed her. It was concluded that had her family or other community members had known that a previous sexual offender was housed amongst them, this crime could've been prevented. With that in mind, the U.S. Congress enacted the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", also known as Megan's Law, without any protests.
Ever since the law was enacted, Delaware has strived to protect its public by providing the most recent information relevant to previous sexual offenders and their place of residence. The legislation has proven that though sex crimes are still a problem in the United States, acts committed by previous offenders are on a regression.
The information attainable through the institution of Megan's Law has shown to be a signifcant asset in keeping one's family safe from the threat of sexual misconduct.
