Delaware Megan's Law

Getting its name from Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was passed into federal law in 1995. Megan's Law requires that all states develop a procedure for informing local residents when a sexual offender is moves into their community.
Megan was only seven years old when a previously convicted sex offender that resided accross the street from her family, kidnapped, violently rapped, and murdered her. It was concluded that if her family or other residents in the communtiy had been aware that a repeated sexual predator was living in their neighborhood, this crime would've been avoided. With those thoughts, the U.S. Congress passed the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", nicknamed Megan's Law, without any protests.
Since the law has been enacted, Delaware has gone out of its way to protect its public by providing the most up to date information regarding convicted sexual offenders and their current residency. The legislation has shown that though sexual offenses are still a occuring in the United States, crimes committed by past offenders are on a downturn.
The data obtainable through the institution of Megan's Law has proven to be a critical advantage in keeping one's family shielded from the threat of sexual crimes.
