Delaware Megan's Law

Getting its name from Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was enacted into federal law in 1995. Megans Law requires that each state develop a procedure for informing local residents when a sexual offender is moves into their neighborhood.
Megan was merely seven years old when a prior sexual predator that lived accross the street from her family, kidnapped, rapped, and killed her. It was concluded that had her family or other residents in the communtiy had been alerted that a repeated sexual predator was housed amongst them, this assult could've been avoided. With that in mind, the U.S. Congress enacted the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", also known as Megan's Law, without any protests.
Ever since the law has been passed, Delaware has made it a point to protect its offering the most up to date information relevant to previous sex offenders and their current residency. The legislation has confirmed that though sex crimes are still a occuring in this country, offenses committed by previous offenders are on a decline.
