Delaware Megan's Law

Getting its name from Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was put into federal law in 1995. Megan's Law requires that all states develop a procedure for notifying the general public when a sexual offender is moves into their neighborhood.
Megan was merely seven years old when a previously convicted sex offender that resided accross the street from her family, kidnapped, rapped, and killed her. It was agreed that had her family or other local residents had known that a previous sexual predator was living in their community, this heinous act could've been prevented. With those thoughts, the U.S. Congress passed the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", nicknamed Megan's Law, without any opposition.
Ever since the law has been passed, Delaware has strived to protect its offering the most current information relevant to past sexual offenders and their place of residence. The law has proven that though sex crimes are still a problem in the United States, crimes committed by past offenders are on a downturn.
