Delaware Megan's Law

Named after Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was enacted into federal law in 1995. Megan's Law requires that each state have a system in place for informing the general public when a sexual offender is relocated into their neighborhood.
Megan was just seven years old when a repeat sexual predator that lived accross the street from her family, kidnapped, violently rapped, and murdered her. It was decided that if her family or other local residents had known that a previous sexual offender was living in their community, this assult could've been avoided. On that train of thought, the U.S. Congress passed the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", nicknamed Megan's Law, without any resistance.
Since the law was passed, Delaware has made it a point to protect its offering the most recent information regarding previous sexual offenders and their place of residence. The legislation has shown that while sexual assaults are still a problem in this country, acts committed by previous offenders are on a decline.
