Delaware Megan's Law

Being named after Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was put into federal law in 1995. Megan's Law requires that every state have a system in place for informing the public when a sexual offender is relocated into their community.
Megan was just seven years old when a previously convicted sexual offender that lived accross the street from her family, abducted, rapped, and murdered her. It was determined that if her family or other community members had been alerted that a convicted sexual offender was living in their community, this assult would have been prevented. With that in mind, the U.S. Congress passed the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", nicknamed Megan's Law, without any opposition.
Since the law was put into effect, Delaware has made it a point to protect its supplying the most current information relevant to convicted sex offenders and their current residency. The legislation has shown that though sex crimes are still a danger in the U.S., offenses committed by previous offenders are on a downturn.
The data obtainable through the institution of Megan's Law has continued to be a signifcant advantage in keeping one's family shielded from the dangers of sexual misconduct.
