Delaware Megan's Law

Getting its name from Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was passed into federal law in 1995. Megan's Law requires that every state develop a procedure for alerting the general public when a sexual offender is moves into their community.
Megan was merely seven years old when a previous sex offender that resided accross the street from her family, abducted, rapped, and murdered her. It was determined that if her family or other residents in the communtiy had known that a previous sexual offender was housed in their neighborhood, this heinous act could've been prevented. With that in mind, the U.S. Congress legislated the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", nicknamed Megan's Law, without any opposition.
Ever since the law has been passed, Delaware has made it a point to protect its supplying the most up to date information regarding previous sex offenders and their current residency. The law has confirmed that while sexual offenses are still a problem in the U.S., crimes committed by prior offenders are on a downturn.
The information obtainable through the passing of Megan's Law has continued to be a major asset in keeping one's family guarded from the risk of sexual misconduct.
